Annie D’s Restaurant

Annie D’s opened in 1998 in Brandon and has been steadily growing with a great local following.

They pride themselves with high quality, homestyle eats. They have some of the best slow roasted smoked meats in the metro area and a huge buffet daily with some of the best seasoned southern veggies and entrees you can find anywhere.

They named the restaurant after the owner’s grandmother with many of their items being family recipes influenced by the family’s Louisiana roots.

The food: You will find red beans and rice daily on their buffet line as well as a mighty fine selection of meats such as fried chicken, baked chicken, fried fish, and all the ribs, brisket and barbecue you could possibly desire. Each day on the buffet line you will also find a casserole or two to feast upon as well as the delicious veggies of the south.

It’s impossible to go away hungry—in fact your eyes will deceive you as there is no way to even sample half of the offerings that are available without getting stuffed. For instance, there’s a plethora of items like salad greens, cole slaw, potato salad, tuna salad and more awaiting you on the salad or cold end of the buffet, so don’t get carried away before you hit the meat station.

The flavors are tremendous, not like your typically bland so-as-not-to-upset-Grandma’s-stomach chain buffet offerings. They carefully prepare all their dishes, bringing in a lifelong passion for pleasing the pickiest palates with the finest of ingredients and flavors.

Their daily menu offers chicken, fried catfish, turnip greens, green beans, cornbread and rolls every day with an additional six to eight other veggies, casseroles, and side dishes rotating in and out on a daily basis. You have to try their crawfish pie, gumbo, and chicken and dumplings—in fact, it will take several visits to try everything worth raving about.

This brings me to the huge array of desserts that are homemade—cakes, pies, cobblers, and even sugar free desserts are waiting for you if there is any way you have room after hitting the buffet line. And being a pro at recognizing good banana pudding, I guarantee that theirs will hit you sweet spot, especially if you like it Louisiana style like me.

The drink: Annie D’s is an alcohol-free restaurant—but frankly, who wants to fill up on a heavy beer or glass of wine when there’s so many amazing food offerings. Fortunately, there is plenty of tableside service of coffee, iced tea and soft drink refills for the heartiest of drinkers and eaters.

The scene: The history of Annie D’s is worth noting, as owner Tom Pittman hails from south Louisiana where he learned his culinary talents from his grandmother Annie and has brought his special style, ingredients and seasonings to the Brandon area for over 10 years.

You will enter a very nice size eatery with plenty of seating for large parties, cozy booths, tables and easy access to the buffet that sprawls out across the restaurant. A very rustic yet down home feel awaits your dining experience.

Don’t be surprised to see familiar business, local civic leaders and the great working force filling up the tables at lunch time. And at night you can bring the whole family or a business associate that you want to impress with some great southern food into Annie D’s as you won’t be disappointed for a reasonable price of a $10-$15 meal.

The bottom line: High quality food that is perfectly seasoned, fresh and downright delicious along with the special service only a local, family-run business can provide, is what you will find At Annie D’s. Don’t miss out on an area classic.
